Phizzy said: "JW's today make much fuss about their use of the "Divine name" ,even if their version of it is a bastardisation. [ 12 ] They also point out that "the English form Jehovah is quite simply an Anglicized form of Y e hovah," [ 12 ] and preserves the four Hebrew consonants "YHVH" (with the introduction of the "J" sound in English). Why didn't Jehovah ??
by Phizzy inas jehovah said to the israelites "you are my witnesses" and was happy to let them get on with things without major interference by him, he must have broadly approved of what the nation was doing, until jesus came and changed things.. for hundreds of years before jesus the jw's (israelites) had decided that the name of god was too holy to pronounce.
had he been upset by this he would have sent a prophet to sort this out, but no, it continued as practice, for 200 years at least, and remained uncondemned by jesus.. if jehovah had really wanted his people to use his name, would not a prophet, at least would not his son, have said so ?.

Hi FALCON, nice to see someone here trying to be reasonable. You'll likely find though, that if you don't join the angry majority.. and you try to put forward an opposing viewpoint or encourage people to think rather than just incite trouble via needless sensationalism/assumptions... You'll quickly be labelled as an 'apologist' and mentally grouped with the Jw's. Many here may tell you that the WT preaches hate or that they're antagonistic towards those who disagree with them.. Stay here a while, try to give an opposing viewpoint or encourage people not to make potentially dangerous generalisations/ assumptions.. You'll be insulted and sworn at before you know it. Check out the following links. Great first post.. I'd suggest finding a site with people that are more reasonable and less antagonistic, if you are anything like me you may not fit in here :)

The Watchtower is NOT a false prophet
by The Quiet One inregarding what some have said here about the wt being a false prophet.. i would like to make my point regarding the wt not being a false prophet... so please, if you can be patient enough to read this, at least try to understand what i am getting at.. a false prophet is one who, according to deuteronomy, makes a false prediction of the future and claims that the prediction came from god, or in other words claiming that 'god has said he will do a certain thing at a certain time' etc.. for example, hypothetically speaking, if someone had claimed: "god will bring about the end of the world in 2010", they would have been proven to be a false prophet, obviously.
but, as an example, imagine a man who claimed the position of a prophet of god, (as moses did, because although he was not the type of prophet that predicted the future.. he was still a prophet or spokesman for god) and that he had publicised worldwide, according to his interpretation of a (for example) prophecy found in the book of isaiah, that the world would end in 2010.. and he had also stated that he was not saying that god will end the world in that year.. but only that there was biblical evidence that god might do so.
that would clearly have been a mistake.

Sooner7 - " I await the attacks on my character and intelligience for daring to present an opposing viewpoint with bated breath ", Oh I get it...you're one of those people who gets a raging hard-on from "persecution". Realnice. " -- "with bated breath: while nervously waiting. (as in) We watched with bated breath to see if the mother bear would bring her baby back to safety." - Here's what the phrase means, but you're free to add whatever meaning you want to it. I have had my intelligience and character insulted by some, so it turned out I was right. I won't be wasting any more time on this, I've said all I have to say and probably made a total mess of it. http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/_/dict.aspx?word=with+bated+breath

Iceltic - No, not wholeheartedly. But that makes no difference as to whether it could come true or not, as I am not a scholar.. I offer people a message based on what I believe, but since associating with the skeptics here on jwn, I believe nothing wholeheartedly.

"Obviously the seven congregations which were composed of God's people..were directed by Jesus and God's holy spirit and yet they had many problems. How can this be? Jesus and the holy spirit can't make mistakes. Just because a person or a group of persons are directed by God's spirit does not mean that they will always follow the leadings of God's spirit. Moses didn't. David didn't. The Israelites didn't. The apostles didn't. At times they failed to follow the guidance of God's spirit which led to incorrect thinking or actions. And so there is a difference in being spirit directed and spirit inspired.Persons who were inspired by holy spirit to write the Bible did not make mistakes in those writings. However, these same persons, who were spirit directed, did not always follow exactly the leadings of God's spirit and so they did make mistakes. The Watchtower publications have not been written under inspiration of the holy spirit and so at times the things written may have to be corrected. By no means does this prove that Jehovah's Witnesses are not spirit directed..." (link at bottom of post) -- ..Or, I would add, that the essence of the message that was preached when you went out on the preaching work, that the Bible says this system of things will end, was wrong. Jesus said that people would prove that they were his disciples by preaching ''the good news of the kingdom'', which I'm sure you know means that his kingdom will bring peace to the earth by ending this system of things ("and then the end will come") that you can clearly see is not under Gods kingdom rule. Scripturally speaking, being a disciple of Jesus, as well as having 'love amongst yourselves', is not dependent on saying WHEN the end will come.. but it is dependent on telling people that it WILL come, and that it could be at any time in the near future, as you know. Jw's are trying to do this. Some may claim that the WT interpreted beyond what Jesus said, (by being specific in promoting a theory in that they said 1975 may/may not happen, otherwise known as a theory, of the exact year.. Or uninspired prediction if you like..) but so did his chosen disciples in the 1st century. (John 21:22, 23) (Luke 19:11) (Acts 1:6,7)... They may/may not have told anyone else about their idea, but even if they didn't, peoples lives did not depend on what they thought Jesus meant in these cited scriptures.. And who would risk being bloodguilty if they felt that they saw a clear interpretation of a Bible prophecy, that people needed to be warned about.. even at the risk of being wrong? Got to go, thanks for replying.. http://thetruthaboutthetruthaboutthetruth.blogspot.com/2006/12/are-jehovahs-witnesses-gods-spirit.html

The generation that saw 1914 hasn't passed away yet, the understanding of the word generation has been refined, it COULD still be fulfilled. If not, the WT is a false prophet.

Really? Where have I said that I fully believe every single jw doctrine, or demonstrated that the WT can tell me what to think? Or that I am convinced they are definitely right about 1914 etc? Do you have a quote to prove this? Or maybe something to refute my argument as without basis? I'm presenting possible defenses.. nobody tells me what to think or I wouldn't be here, would I ? (Jw's are counselled not to even look at sites like this).. You have no proof of your claim, just a baseless assumption and a neat little label to apply to me so that you don't have to prove that what I've said is wrong.. It'd be nice if you could come back and add something to the discussion rather than just judging me, but don't worry, I won't hold my breath.. Also, maybe you could take a look at post guideline number 1 .. Unless you feel that calling somebody a 'mind control cult person' , with no supporting evidence whatsoever, is not simply an insult? Or provocative?
